Can’t wait for another Engadget Show to roll around? Well you’re in luck, friend. We’re going to be hitting the stage again come December 20th, and this one is set to be a killer.

The last show of the decade will be dedicated to just that: the decade. We’re going to be talking about the most important gadgets of the past 10 years — both good and bad — and we’ll be joined by the perfect guest. Peter Rojas, the founder of both Gizmodo and Engadget (and now gdgt!) will take the stage with Josh, Paul, and Nilay to discuss what has been arguably the most important 10 years in gadgetry.

TechCrunch Friday Giveaway: Kodak Zi8, The Flip Killer #crunch

December 4th, 2009 No comments

Our last Friday Giveaway was a Sonos S5 Wireless Music System. This week Kodak was kind enough to hand us a Zi8 pocket video camera, and one of you is going to have it in your hands shortly.

CrunchGear’s overview of the Zi8 is here. This is a Flip-like picked video camera that records in 1080p high definition. The device includes a SD/SDHC card slot for expandable storage. And the best feature is this – the Zi8 has an external microphone jack to help get decent audio into the device. Poor audio has plagued the Flip cameras.

TUAW Review and giveaway: BackPack for iMac and Cinema Display

December 3rd, 2009 No comments

Way back in August we announced the release of the Twelve South BackPack for iMacs and Cinema Displays. It’s a cool little metal shelf that clamps onto the back of the desk stand on your computer or monitor, giving you a place to hide a backup hard drive or proudly display the best of your Star Wars figurine collection.

Twelve South sent us a couple of BackPacks to try out, and in following TUAW’s policy for review equipment, we’re going to be giving those away to two lucky readers. Before we get to the details of the giveaway, be sure to read the review of this surprisingly handy little accessory.

Road Tested: Newer Technology NuPower Charge & Sync +

December 2nd, 2009 No comments

If there’s something that is almost as common as fart apps, it’s iPhone external battery packs. TUAW has done reviews and giveaways of a number of these units including the Richard|Solo 1800 and the Mophie Juice Pack Air. One thing that a lot of these boxes have in common is that they all require an external AC adapter in order to charge ‘em up.

That can sometimes be problematic, particularly since the AC adapters are sometimes as large as the battery pack itself. A separate AC adapter also means that there’s one more thing that you have to remember to take on a trip and one more thing that can get lost.

It’s Sunday and I want you to be happy. That’s why I’m offering you your very own Vue Personal Video network so you can keep an eye on Santa as he sneaks up to your back porch and steals your garbage cans.

We reviewed this kit a few months ago and were impressed. It’s completely wireless and the cameras are battery powered.
